A note from me.

It's been a whole month since I launched the Clinic on Thursday and I just want to thank you for embracing it the way you have.

It's sometimes hard to place yourself and find your 'thing' in the blogging community and I've been questioning the whole point of it the last few weeks. It's so easy to find yourself distracted and swallowed up in the whole thing - especially on twitter - 'ooh I wasn't invited to THAT event - I wasn't sent THAT product!' Seriously? Who gives a shit? In my dying days I'm fairly sure I won't say 'I cannot believe I didn't go to that deodorant launch!' And I've absolutely no time or energy for the dramas and the bad-mouthing each other. No energy whatsoever. My time is precious to me. I don't want to waste any of it.

I'll never be an OOTD blogger. My outfit of EVERY day is trainers, jeans and tops. *Thrilling*

I don't do 'haul' posts - or as I refer to some of them: 'buying a load of expensive stuff you don't need, with money you don't have, to impress people you don't know'. Please don't think I judge those of you that do. I absolutely don't. That's not what this is about. It's just not my style. I know that it's a generation thing.

I went to an event recently where I literally felt like the Mum who had come to collect her daughter.  I always joke that 'X' blogger could marry my son - that's because the majority of bloggers are young enough to be my CHILD.  Haven't been to an event since. Honestly? Unless it's something I'm really interested in - I'd rather be at home. On the sofa. Hair in a bun. With my kids. Perspective. I needed perspective.

Since I decided to go back to basics and do the Clinic, focus primarily on skincare and recommending things I absolutely think are brilliant, the blog has gone from strength to strength. Opportunities have arisen that I don't think would have happened had I not focussed on what I do best. The challenge is finding the time to maximise the opportunities whilst still giving everything else the attention it needs. As regular readers will know, I have a large family and a very demanding job and they have to come first. One is the reason I live and the other feeds that reason.

So: I'll keep going.  Because ultimately I really enjoy doing this blog. But I'm taking a week off from the Clinic. I hope you'll understand - I've had a couple of health issues myself this week and I need a weekend for me.

The Clinic will be back next week - in the meantime: PLEASE wash your face properly and stop obsessing over your pores. We can't see them.  Honest.

  1. Hey you!

Good for you for finding your feet again. I've been doing some soul searching myself recently as to where I fit in the online world, and like you, I'm old enough to be a mother to many, have a large family and a busy job.

Am I the makeup artist equivalent of you?!

Anyway, reading this has made me think about what i do best, and where I'm happiest, and I have a bit more clarity in my head!

Take care of you, and thanks for BEING you!

  10. Hi, fab blog! I just wanted to let you know QVC are selling huge 200ml pot of Emma Hardie moringa balm with no p&p as their beauty product of the month for March.
I know you love it from all your posts so thought I'd let you and everyone know!

  12. I love your blog - you speak sense and it's refreshing. I think that anyone who thinks badly of you for not tending to our pore issues for a week needs a reality check. Take care and do what you feel is best for you and your family. x p.s. I also think that the concentration on skincare is fabulous, as there are other brilliant blogs for make-up etc :)

  14. I spotted this post just as I was working myself up to announce taking a week off myself. Sleep training a 2 year old, homework with the 6 year old and book week costumes mean I've got nothing left to give in the blogging sense. I chuckled at your OOTD comments, no one needs to see my outfits either!

It's great that the clinic has been such a success. Your skincare knowledge and advice is second to none and I feel like I've benefitted enormously from your reviews and recommendations. I hope you have a lovely weekend xxx

  16. Dear Mrs Hirons.

    Amen to your whole post.
Thanks for being an awesome teacher. Your advice is helping my skin loads since it decided to go all pre-teen-emo-angst on me after 33yrs of mostly behaving.

    Sincerely
    Cindy.

  17. Fair play - I will just have to save my question for next week. I have to say though I just love watching all the 'young ones' doing their thing - although I do feel exhausted just watching them. I can tell you this for nothing I wouldn't be sitting at my desk doing the job that I am doing if this was all possible 20 odd years ago. Love the blog - get well soon :)

  18. I think you're fab. Have had a few blog wobbles myself this year as things change. LOVE your blog and glad that you are feeling a bit more zinged up. (If zinged is a word... it is now!) The clinique is GENIUS xx

  19. I know the feeling of being just a bit 'blah' about blogging, especially when you start to compare yourself to other bloggers. I've loved your blog from the very beginning and I really appreciate all your expert advice, but most of all, common sense and good sense of humor. You rock, Caroline.

  21. Don't fret m'dear, the reason I rate your blog is because of your no-nonsense content! I have to agree with you about the 'haul' posts. Pointless. LOVING your blog, though, and I hope you enjoy your week off clinic duty. We all appreciate your help!

  23. I absolutely LOVE your blog! It is my definite go-to for all things skin care and I have learned so much from reading it and have at least 4 posts bookmarked to come back to for reference. Hope you enjoy your well earned week off from the clinic :) xx

  24. Please don't stop, this is honestly the best blog out there. This has knowledge for one; you know your stuff which is more than can be said for people who 'collect' make up they never use to make their stash look huge for vlogs and constantly post 'hauls'. Riveting. (And it's not an age thing, I'm 21).

  25. Thank you everyone. I really appreciate it. xx

  27. Hello there! I've just discovered your blog and I love it! It's my favourite beauty blog - full of no nonsense skincare information. Love your beauty clinic idea. I've picked up so many beauty tips here and believe me I do a lot of research!

I'm about to buy the EH cleanser on QVC based on your recommendation - was going to post about the offer here but I see some other beauty fanatic has beaten me to it :)

Thank you for sharing your knowledge, have a good rest and hope you feel better soon.

  28. I've got these pores, right? And they're, like MASSIVE? And, I like, cleanse my face with motor oil and sulphur, like, every day? HALP!

  29. Skin care is where it's at. I have a positive passion for great skin care. After all, makeup is like icing on a cake, if what's underneath isn't good, the whole thing fails.

  30. I went to a blogger event recently and I also felt like a mum to just about everyone there. At the same time I felt a bit smug, I may be in my forties but I'm married to a wonderful man so it evens out!

  31. I know what you mean about blogging events - I feel like the older sister who's been made to supervise everyone and confiscate the smuggled-in bottles of cider. P.S love your blog :) x
