Pixi Glow Tonic - a P50 dupe.

I found this Glow Tonic at Pixi last week and my eyes immediately zoomed in on the ingredients. They are incredibly similar to P50 and I am really enjoying using it.

Pixi skincare is definitely no-frills, which I REALLY like. Anyone else sick of throwing away a heavy box that added £1.50 to the price of your product? I know I am.

Petra's sister Sofia trained as an aesthetician in Sweden to degree level, she was based in Stockholm and was a facialist with a little black book of Sweden's A list. She wanted to create a line that she could use in her bespoke facials in Stockholm.

Sofia wanted to develop a range for Pixi that was based around purely: simplicity and efficacy, the skincare is hand made in small batches and packaged simply and priced sensibly as she wanted to encourage people to use the best quality skincare at a price they could afford. (TOTAL WIN)

The skincare is 'spin' free, over 12 years old and still is hand labelled/filled and very much anti-hype. There are no added fragrance/colour/fillers, with some products that are AMAZING for even hyper sensitive skins. It is definitely a results-driven range.

The Glow Tonic is an oil-free, alcohol-free, gentle but astringent toner. Heavy in aloe vera, it also contains witchhazel to tone and firm, smooth the appearance of the skin and soften the texture. Ginseng is a natural supplier of oxygen to the cells and horse chestnut stimulates the skin and circulation.
Glycolic loosens the excess accumulation of dead skin cells and thus exfoliates. It says for normal to dry and older skins but this will help all skin types in my opinion.

You can use 2 x day as a toner - will help diminish signs of sun damage and reduce fine lines.

AND: it's £16.00. SIXTEEN POUNDS. For 250ml.

And wait for it: I just called the store to fact check the price and Pixi is currently on a Buy One Get One Free promotion.

What it DOES have in common with P50 is that it not available online - you need to call the store on 0207 287 7211 or email storemanager@pixibeauty.com for mail order.

By far the BEST BOGOF offer I've seen in a long, long time.

You should also check out their masks. I'm working my way through them and in light of the promotion will move them up the list to review!

* PR Sample, but I'm buying this offer. No affiliate links and I have no business links to Pixi.  Unfortunately ;)

  6. I really like the sound of this since I am almost finished with my bottle of P50v (*with phenol) and I am not sure what to get next. Unfortunately, I live in the US and it is not available to us. Do you have a recommendation for something with similar results that we can get over here?

  7. Hi Caroline. This might seem a silly question but is it the same brand as the Pixi brand that does the make up. If yes, do you think that they would sell it in Boots ? Or is it sth you can only find in Pixi stores ?

    Have a nice day !

  8. Wow, this is exciting.
Didnt know if I could justify the price of getting p50 1970 lotion shipped from US at this time of year. Have e-mailed them at PIXI, eagerly await their response.

I wanted to ask Caroline, have you any experience of any of the Paulas Choice exfoliant liquids?

    1. No but I would expect them to be good. Paula has a brain. :)

  9. Thanks for the heads up, I've been on the lookout for a new toner and this sounds great. I just placed my order for a couple of bottles with the lovely salesgirl at the store (who informed me that it's selling out fast!), and it should arrive with me either tomorrow or Monday. Top notch service!

  10. Hi Caroline. I think I may have asked this in the clinic previously but could not find where I had originally posted it! Can you please recommend a couple of toners for me - I'm 27, did have quite bad acne but has nearly cleared up now (thanks to you) I'm not particularly dry or sensitive, just wanted something that will help with the remaining spots and not encourage others but also not strip my skin during winter. Thanks in advance! : )

  11. BUT ...what about the phenol? Can this work as well if it is missing the vital ingredient???

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. From what I understand the phenol in P50 is used as a mild anaesthetic/acid. However lovely it feels on the skin, it is indeed banned in the EU so we may as well get used to it! :(

  12. Just ordered 2 and mentioned your review as the reason for purchase. Really looking forward to trying a new range.

  13. Hi

Have just sent an e-mail off now to place an order.
So pleased with this news as I couldnt justify the cost of shipping p50 1970 from US at this time of year.

On a side note Caroline, I wanted to ask if you had any expereince of any of the Paulas' Choice exfoliating lotions?

  14. Ooh, I'm now considering a trip up to Carnaby St tonight, but wondering whether your post means they've now sold out. Are Pixi really ready for the fame you've brought them? :)

  15. Hi Caroline. Thanks for the heads up - two bottles are winging their way to me right now. Please could you let us know of other Pixi goodies as the skin care is only in store and Carnaby Street is a 400 mile round trip for me! Thanks :) x

  16. This sounds great! I've never tried any pixi products but a lot of people seem to really like the brand lately! I might have to find out if we can get it in the US. Great review :-)

  18. Over the years many have tried to copy P50 but we all go back to it. I feel like there's no product like it in the world, that gives you such amazing results. I'll give this one a try but only because I can't get the original p50 for now.

  28. Hi Caroline, first off, amazing blog!
I'm extremely new to skincare and your blog has highlighted just how much you need to look after your skin.
I know you must get this a lot, but could you do a basic skin routine post? How to look after, maintain and build your own regime. And mention the staple products you should have as a part of it?
It would be amazing if you could :)
Thank you for this gem of a blog!x

  29. Oh bother!, I tried to phone this morning, but was unable to speak with anyone. I do so hope that if this is being produced in the future they will take into account all the pent up demand from your readers Caroline.

Any recomendations for exfoliating toners please?

Big thanks for all the great information that you sus out for us.

  34. Hello Caroline, ginseng toner with glycolic acid 5% from Bravura London seems to me the same. Is it?
What do you think about this brand?
For an adult cystic acne would you recommend more this toner or with 10% AHA/BHA.

  35. OUT OF STOCK!!! ABSOLUTELY GUTTED!

  36. Ooh yes please let us know what you think of the two suggested by the anons above as alternatives? Was gutted when I got the email saying pixi had sold out, I really hope they bring it back :/ what do you think of the ren acidic toner compared to this? X

p.s. cheat sheet suggestion - skin care by age - e.g. in your twenties extend routine down your neck, thirties add anti-aging whatevers, in your forties add x,y, z etc (I have no idea hence the cheat sheet idea :-P) x

Thank you so much for sharing your know-how! :)
What do you think about SkinCeuticals LHA Solution? By any far can it be compared to Liquid Gold?
I'm in Portugal and haven't discovered yet any sails site that delivers it (LG) here. Thanks

  41. I'm currently using a Paula's Choice toner which seems to be working fairly well for me, but I was wondering what you thought about her products/ if you have ever tried them. She's hard to trust in my opinion sometimes because of how pushy she can be about her own products. I guess they are her products so her enthusiasm is understandable... but still. Anyways, what's your opinion? Thanks!

  42. Back in stock as of this morning but can't use BOGOF to get 2 tonics, as the offer is on I got one tonic and three masks for a sum total of £32.00 - Bargain! Thanks Caroline for bringing this to our attention

  44. Hi Carolin,

I don´t know...I emailed them and asked if it´s possible to order the glow tonic and get shipping to germany. No reaction at all. I asked twice if they received my mail. Still no reaction.
Somebody else who got no response???

  45. Trying to get my hands on this but, thinking its a no go. I've been searching online for 3 days for this product or P50 and seems there not available or not available to ship to Canada. I too emailed the store for the pixie toner and have had no response. Totally gutted!

  46. I think I'm going to pick some of this up today - just to check, I can use this as a toner morning and night right? There's not an extra toning step that I've completely forgotten?

Just a quick question, I use at the moment Elemis Balancing Lavender toner - would this be ok for after the Pixi Glow or would I need something more hydrating?

  53. is the offer buy 1 get one still going on in the london store?

  54. How do you find the product so far? I have combination skin and I needed to stop using the tonic after 2 weeks as the skin became very tense and dry. My forhead even started to flake! Wonder what's other ppl experience?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hi, I'm wondering if this would be too harsh to use alongside Tazorac? I use Tazorac to keep acne under control and want to continue using it but my pores are large and my skin has a rough texture to it so I am wondering if an exfoliating toner would work for me instead of my twice a week exfoliation with a scrub.

  58. After reading all the glorifying reviews I decided to purchase this tonic. Not only I have not noticed any improvement to my skin, but I developed some very unpleasant symptoms on my lips. The skin on my lips started to crack really badly and it took me about 5 weeks to bring my lips back to its normal state after discontinuing of using this product. Seriously, I don't get what the all hype is about. Also, I can not see any improvement in the skin of the bloggers that I follow and who recommend this tonic as a holy grail. Waste of time.
