Thank you Pixiwoo.

So its been a couple of weeks since I did the video with Sam and Nic for BodyTalk Daily.

I was then unexpectedly mentioned in this Summer Makeup Favourites video from the girls at the weekend.

I wanted to do this catch-up post to say two things:

1. Sam and Nic rock. The better side of the industry personified - talented, sweet, so very generous and the ultimate professionals.

2. The effect of being mentioned by Pixiwoo on 2 occasions has sent this blog stratospheric - I am only mentioning this for one reason: I have been inundated with requests for help.
People are emailing/tweeting/finding me on instagram - I am being asked for skin advice in the Post Office and spotted in the loo. (Can you imagine what its like to actually BE Sam and Nic? - I'm exhausted on their behalf thinking about it.)
With the best will in the world there is just no way I can reply to everyone - if you catch me online and I'm around I will always answer if I can - but please don't think I'm rude if I don't reply to you - it's not for lack of wanting.

Thank you Sam and Nic. You rock.

  4. This post makes me happy! I saw you on the girls channel and I have already tweeted you! My skin is become so bad, I really don't know what to do. I have even gone to the doctors and asked for help. I am 30 years of age. A makeup artist and blogger, so my skin goes through a lot. I have recently become intolerant to gluten, my skin has had a flare up too. I now have acne, with lots of red mark scaring, I have eczema around my eyes and also psoriasis, not only that I have super oily skin, my pores are huge and anything that I put on my face burns! I used to be so lucky with what I could use and now its the bare minimal and my skin shows with the lack of creams and potions! Please help. I used to use estee lauder and all highend brands. I'm just worried of buying new products that cost a fortune and burn straight away. My routine at the moment is avene non soap cleanser, coconut oil for my eczema (which has helped) and just an tesco's moisturiser with spf in it. I am also on Tetralysal which again, has helped. But I can't stay on them forever. I need a routine of clean skin, that doesn't sting, break me out, make me oily and I defo need some advise on anti wrinkle creams!!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! Thank you, thank you thank you xxx

    1. Your system sounds like its on fire. I would look at all of the cheat sheets over there ---->
and look at supplementing, don't worry about a moist with spf at this stage - the sun will prob help for a short time (i'm not suggesting you go and sunbathe in Miami without protection).

    2. Thank you. I think we get drawn into the whole idea that there must be miracle creams to have the perfect skin. I am now following your blog and can't wait to read through them. One more thing, what do you think of microdermabrasions or the PMD microdermabrasions?????

      Thanks Again

    3. Microdermabrasion is a treatment - not a cure. It's ok - it's not great. Sorry.

Hi Caroline I only just didcovered your blog and I love it :)I was just wondering could you recommend a cheapish cleanser for combination yet sensitive skin, recently I'v been stressed out and getting dry patches on my cheeks but have an oily t zone ! If you don't reply I understand , thanks :)

  11. I can understand that, actually - I already read your blog, but when Nic said you revolutionised her skincare routine my immediate thought was, "I wish she could revolutionise mine!" I've restrained myself, however, and am working my way through all your posts instead. And I'm still laughing at your "fannies, festivals and flights" comment.

  17. Hi Caroline!
The video was great, was great to see the face behind the blog! I'm lucky enough to have had you answer many of my clinic questions, it's so exciting when you reply *sad, i know* but for me and many ppl that first push of real good advice really sets us up to make informed decisions on how to care for skin and what to buy or not buy. I even have ppl coming to me for advice after i tell them things iv read off ur blog. I give them a lecture about flannels and send them to your blog! Iv started trying other brands now, especially french pharmacy ones and even tho they're not specifically recommended by you, i know what to look for and what to avoid.

I know it must be hard to reply to everyone but just wanted to say thanks anyway!

  18. It's just too bad that half the people that found you all of a sudden will not read back on your blog because probably their questions have already been answered here. I read the whole thing the day I found you and there were quite a few questions I had that had already been answered. Now I link everyone I know here. You have a skincare problem? I KNOW WHERE TO SEND YOU. Did that today too actually.

  19. Your video has made me re-think my entire skincare routine. I have ditched the foaming/gel wash cleansers and I'm now embracing cream/balm cleansers. I bought the popular Emma Hardie cleanser over the weekend from QVC, SO excited to try this out! I think I am also going to ditch some of my muslin cloths because they've gone a bit rank and to be honest they don't feel half as nice as a flannel! Wish you did Cheat Videos, I've read all your cheat sheets and found them very useful. Plus I love your way of writing! lol x

  22. I had basic clogged pore issues and tweaked my regime to include the morning cleanse, 2 toners and the 2 masks. Loving it so far.

I would love it if Caroline would just have a page w/ current recs for each category e.g. toner, clay mask, morning cleanser etc and where it is avail. Seeing all this stuff only made me sad I couldn't get my hands on it, being in NY!!!

  23. I love you in a non creepy way but my bank account is crying! But my skin looks amazing, and I had pretty much all the good stuff but I was not using it the right way. Now I have read your blog from the beginning (you are a funny one) love your no nonsens approach to skincare!

  24. Watching this video did me a huge favour: I've been having breakouts on my chin for a couple of years now and was wondering why new spots kept on appearing in that area. The answer was (as pointed by you!) that I was using an exfoliator which was transfering the bacteria to other parts of my chin. I stopped exfoliating after watching the video and guess what? No new spots. As a matter of fact my skin looks so much better and far less dry now I solely use a cream cleanser.
Think I owe you a great big Thank You!

  28. Lovely blog. After watching the video with nic and sam I immediately went over to your blog in order to find an answer for my skin problems. I have very a red (Rudolf red) nose and cheeks, with visible veins on my cheeks. I have tried a lot (clinique redness solutions,…). And I have the feeling it only gets worse. I’m 21 years old and apart from the redness and the sensitivity that comes along with that my skin is fine ( not oily and no dry patches). What do you recommend? I hope you have the time to answer sins I did not find an answer in the blog posts.

  33. Hi Caroline, so happy for you! After I watched your video, I went and bought a balm cleanser. Emma Hardie, REN, etc and all the other famous options aren't available in my country, but I found one, Lush Ultra Bland that I bought and have since been loving it. I know you said that you use Emma Hardie for the afternoon, but can cleansing balms be used in the morning too? I've been using Ultra Bland day and night and it's been great.

Also, I read your entry on Clarins Exfoliating Toner (http://www.beautymouth.com/2013/01/clarins-exfoliating-toner-my-most.html) and you had mentioned that the US version, Bright Plus HP Gentle Renewing Brightening Peel, is exactly the same. That's the same one available in my country so I decided to buy it, is it also recommended to use everyday? I have been using it everyday but I'm worried about over-exfoliating my skin, haha.

    2. I have done some more reading on your blog and I have ordered the REN Clear Calm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser to implement into my routine, along with reintroducing some of my Aveda skincare back in. I used to use their composition oil as a makeup remover before cleansing so I think I will do that again, and follow up my cleanser with Aveda's leave on exfoliant, toner, and moisturizer. I just have to say you blog has been so helpful. Anyone who has left questions for Caroline to reply to I suggest looking back on older blog posts to see if she may have already made suggestions to other readers that may apply to you. Pepta Bright and Eysilix have made a HUGE difference in my skin; my undereye area!! Lighter, smoother and brighter. I look way less tired (ha..!) and Pepta Bright is just crazy good.

2 Q's: (only if you have the time) Can't decide between EH balm cleanser and Balance Me Face Balm. Both are expensive for me, so is EH SO amazing that it's just something I can't miss out on or is Balance Me also lovely?
And: after cleansing with a balm ckeanser and removing that with a flannel it's okay for some of those oils from the balm to stay on the skin? Still getting used to that idea!

THANK YOU! (And I agree - youtube video's... you're hilarious & insightful, I'd be your first subscriber :)

  48. Hi Caroline!
After watching Pixiwoo's video i instantly wanted to meet you and ask you for your advice on my skincare! I can see you have replied to people above, so i am very much hoping you can do the same to me! :) my skin gets me unbelievably down, it's something i really dislike about myself. I suffered with ache as a teenager and i am now 21, i still have slight red marks, oily skin, breakouts, i also also have several spots on my face and blackheads, i don't think i have ever experienced clear skin! I have recently tried the liz earle hot cleanser but it did nothing for me and i used the whole bottle! I now use all products from lush, and they make my skin feel lovely but i feel like i can not find anything that drastically changes my skin. It is so true what you said on pixiwoo's video about how the makeup will look rubbish without good skincare and i am finding this a problem! i have really amazing makeup, but my skin just isn't making it look nice! I would love for you to tell me what products to try from the beginning stage of the skin regime to the end! I am a student nurse so on a budget, but would love your advice and hopefully make me feel more confident with my skin. Anything between £10-£25 would be fine. I really hope you can reply as it would make my day. Thank you so much, and i love all your advice, x

  52. I just stumbled into your blog, and boy am I glad that I did! :-) Sounds like you're a bit of a beauty and skin care guru! My skin has been depressing me lately. I used to have extremely oily skin and acne in my teens and even early 20s. I ended up agreeing to a roaccutane treatment in October of 2011, and it changed my life. My skin became clear and normal and people even complimented me on my perfect skin. I stopped my treatment in May of 2012 and my skin stayed looking great until the beginning of this year. I moved from Belgium to Switzerland in January, and once I got here my skin transformed. And the transformation wasn't pretty :-( I've been getting oilier again, but what is even worse that I started developing awful acne again. Boom, outa nowhere! My skin looks again like the skin I used to have at 16, and I am turning 26 next month. I've been supplementing, taking good care of my skin, being gentle with it, but it just keeps getting worse. My beautician here told me it might be because of the change in climate, but it's been almost 4 months now and my skin just doesn't seem to be adapting... Do you have any idea what might be going on and what I could do? Thank you so much in advance. XXX

  53. All three of you rock! Caroline, you have seriously saved my skin. If I had never read your blog, I would still be washing with foamy face wash and slathering my acne with benzoyl peroxide every night . . . and not using enough moisturizer! My skin has done a complete turn around since I've revamped my skin care based on your suggestions. I can't thank you enough, and I always recommend your site to my friends who have skin issues.

  60. Oh my days... I could cry at my skin right now although it looks tons better than a few months ago.
Long story short - I started with acne when I was about 19 (now 31) and finished my 3rd course of roaccutane last August. Perfect skin for 4 solid months then bam... It returned but 10 times worse. There isn't much I havnt tried but I'm still getting spots on my jaw and cheeks, lots of congestion with an oily t zone by lunch time. I recently gave up scrubs which improved things massively, and admittedly I'm a picker but they just keep coming. I'm getting more whiteheads than I ever have and painfull inflamed spots.
    Routine is:
Am) Ren clay cleanser, p50V, dermalogica calming toner, hydralauron, dermalogica moisture boost serum, origins starting over oil free/ dermalogica clear start matte
Pm) Same but with Emma hardie balm as 1st cleanse and dermalogica skin smoothing cream. A couple of nights a week I use Ren AHA skin resurfacing serum... But I'm not sure about it, it's maybe making things worse.
Salicycic acid doesn't do much and benzoyl peroxide burns. I know you don't like dermalogica but they were fine post roaccutane.
    HELP!!!

I have a question though ... I am in the US and have searched high and low for the Emma Hardie cleanser, and it just doesn't seem to be sold here. 68. Hello Caroline I am in desperate need for advise on dehydrated skin on legs and arms and well everywhere other than face. I am starting the change and can't get my skin hydrated. I've been to dermatologist and nothing is working. Help. Thank you Ps. I am also so very excited to have found you.

  69. Hi Caroline! I'm really tempted to purchase the EH cleansing balm or the Aurelia miracle cleanser.. I'm on accutane now but the facial cleanser do nothing on my skin. What's your recommendation? I'm also using la roche posay effaclar

    1. I'd do EH. Aurelia has eucalyptus which may irritate x

  70. I wish Sam and Nic would produce a Part II and use a model to demonstrate your cleansing, toning, and layering techniques. Capturing each step on video would be super helpful. BTW Caroline, you have NO wrinkles. Phssst 43!?! You lie!! Obviously you're selection of products and routine have served you well. As for my skin, I’m in my last year of my dirty 30s and after hearing your advice I plan on spending the extra coin on your line up. Unfortunately, Sephora only carries two of the brands so I’ll have to absorb some shipping costs (damn, I really wanted those beauty rewards points!).
On a separate note how does an outsider break into the beauty biz? I currently work for one of the worlds tech giants (they own this platform) but want to build a career in the beauty industry. Since I live in San Francisco I'm targeting Sephora but have had no luck. I realize it's a little late in the game and a bulk of the work force is younger but I'm determined to switch gears. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

  71. hey Caroline! absolutely love this video!
I went and bought the EH balm, clarins exfoliating toner, ren clay cleanser and the hydraluron (ran out of money before I could buy a moisturiser! haha would you recommend any from drug stores, higher end brands that boots stock?)I've been using the EH balm then ren at night and ren in the morning. Today I have 2 sore under the skin spots on my nose and one of my chin and nose. My skin tone looks far more even however. My skin is very oily, white heads, spots, clogged pores. For 22 my skin looks awful! haha. I'm on antibiotics from the doctor for my skin that dont seem to be helping and I'm undersure if i should stop taking them all together but could any of this be causing the sudden increase of the huge lumpy spots? or could it be my skin purging and does that even happen?!
hope you can help. thanks love!
    cara xx

    1. Not sure if this will help Cara but whenever I change products I usually get a few spots especially if the products you were using previously weren't as good or as effective.

  72. Hi Caroline, what do you think about natural products. Brands such as 100% Pure Cosmetics and Yes To Carrots/blueberries/cucumbers et al.? Ella

  74. Would like to say a huge THANK YOU from my skin for your no nonsense, down to earth and understandable advice. I have very dry, sensitive skin and since finding you I have noticed a huge difference in my skin. I have started using Aveda exfoliating toner and once I finish my Liz Earle C&P then I will be purchasing Emma Hardie's balm. You will be pleased to know that I was already flannel user!

    Keep the advice coming!

  77. I too am a convert via Pixiwoo, I just wish I'd found your awesome blog years ago!!

I developed acne rosacea about 4 years ago and having never before suffered with acne, I found it so difficult to deal with alongside my very dry skin - flakes and spots are just the worst combination!! My doctor just chucked some antibiotics and a horrid gel (that burnt my face!!) at me and so I never went back after finding out the hard way that it wasn't the way to go.

Since reading as much of your blog as possible I've now introduced EH cleansing balm, pixi glow tonic, aveda botanical kinetics hydrating lotion, liquid gold (in moderation) and trilogy rosehip oil. My skin is looking better than it has in years and I have you to thank for that. So thank you soooooo much!

Even the huge dent in my bank balance has been completely worth it :-)

  78. If you get a second and can think of something for a man with eczema around his nose and eyebrows - a moisturizer he can use that will help to alleviate or clear up symptoms. Thanks so much for your advice!

    1. Take fish oil as a supplement every day, and possibly more than the recommended amount. That has completely cleared up my eczema, which also used to be on my face. But be patient when you just start. It might take a month before you see results.

  81. Found your blog through a friend who was appalled by my use of baby wipes. Between this and your routine post I am about to delve into a whole new skincare routine which goes beyond simple baby wipes and Liz Earle and includes blams, exfoliating toners and double everything! Thank you!!!! p.s. aged 27 do you recommend the yu-be moisturiser? Seems good value for money...
