herbfarmacy Mallow Beauty Balm

I've been asked a lot about rosacea this week. The weather is clearly taking its toll. A lot of questions centered around red cheeks and broken capillaries. We can't control the weather, but what we can control is what we put on our skin. Foaming face washes in this weather are just asking for trouble. I'm talking about the drying, washing-up liquid texture, bubbling ones that claim to leave you squeaky clean. A skin that squeaks is a skin in trouble. So here's another lovely, luxurious balm to add to the stable.

What is it?
An 'award-winning facial balm that has marshmallow and mullein that softens and deeply moisturises the skin leaving it smooth and protected.'

What's in it?
*Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) seed oil, *Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) seed oil, *Cera flava (Beeswax), *Butyrospermum parkii (Shea Butter), *Althaea officinalis (Marshmallow) root extract, *Calendula officinalis flower extract, *Verbascum thapsus (Mullein) extract, *Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) extract, *Pelargonium graveolens (Rose Geranium) leaf oil, *Citrus paradisi (Grapefruit) peel oil, *Cananga odorata (Ylang ylang) flower oil, *linalool, *limonene, *geraniol, *eugenol (Essential oil ingredients)* = Organic

Possibly acne/allergy/troubling for some ingredients?
Essential oils - although this is really subtle smelling, the essential oils can't be in very high %'s. It's not 'smell overload'.
Shea butter (but it's not a main ingredient)

What's not in it?
SLS
mineral oils
parabens
pthalates
If you're looking for a more natural approach, this one is for you, it's certified organic by The Soil Association.

Who is it for?
Everyone as a cleanser, dry/eczema/psoriasis as a moisturising balm.

How do you use it?
Well. I accidentally applied it as a cleanser, and it worked beautifully. It is actually sold though, as a moisturising balm - so you put it anywhere you need some moisturising protection.
This would be a good one to apply before you go out running in the mornings - smooth a little over your cheeks and chin to stop the cold burn (you crazy people you!). You could also put a small amount over your face before swimming. I tend not to go above the brow though - you don't want it running into your eyes.
And if you are doing any of these activities in a sports club, absolutely apply this before you go into a sauna or steam room. Make your own mini-facial with no effort.

This is £14.50 for 30ml. You can also request a sample size or try a 15ml size. Value-for-money wise, it's great. A really lovely balm that removes makeup, moisturises skin, works as a lip balm - chap balm for babies, whatever you want it for..

Available from herbfarmacy.co.uk - lovely stuff.

  3. Mm sounds yummy. I'm allergic to nuts so I stay away from balms with almond oil. Thanks for the extra ideas - I wish I could try it in a steam room! Are there any other cleansers you'd recommend for mega dry, sensitive and dehydrated skin (don't wear make up, just need to wash my scaly face innit). Happy Thursday!

  4. Thanks Caroline. Seems similar to the Neal's Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm in its use?

  7. Would be brilliant if you could do a cheat sheet/info sheet for rosacea/redness. What products to use. What to avoid..... 😘 Appreciate all your advice and time given X

    1. I would love this as well! It's much harder to find good info on rosacea compared to other skin issues, I find.

    2. Me too. My rosacea isn't just irritated red skin, it's dehydrated but combination too!
I get red spots on my cheeks when I've eaten naughty foods, when its too hot in a room etc.So I can't just slather on rich products for dry irritated skin. It takes over your life at times :-( Any help appreciated. X

    3. Me too... I have Rosacea & though Its fairly well controlled most of the time, it's hating this weather.
Thank you Caroline - you have no idea how much of a difference your amazing advice has made to me. With my calmer skin comes more confidence.

  8. Step away from the essential oils and keep walking -
I've just had the tomato face of all flare ups caused by Clarins Blue Orchid oil and the only thing that has calmed everything back down to acceptable levels is something very bland and 'quiet' - Ren evercalm cleanser, serum and the Global day cream.
I remembered I had some Bioderma Cicabio Creme and I'm sure I heard my face give out a sigh of relief when I slathered it with this stuff yesterday.
If you ever want and old sensitive face as a guinea pig let me know.

  9. Hi Caroline, on the subject of skin difficulties and winter weather - I have dehydrated and sensitized skin (I think - skin stings when I put on certain products). I saw Sarah Brown at F&M until they closed and she recommended the AA soothing face oil which is great and has definitely made a difference. But I wanted to know some other products that might help – in particular a serum and moisturiser (night & day). I got a sample of the Zelens 3T complex essentials anti-ageing cream from Space NK and unfortunately it makes my skin stings, feels tight and doesn't look hydrated. Also my foundation doesn’t go on very well over the top (use Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser). Is there anything you could recommend that could give me hydration, doesn’t congest my skin and also helps with visible signs of ageing (loss of firmness). Btw, I’m 30 years old. Anything you can do to help would be amazing. Tried a lot of products and nothing seems to work! Thank you!

  12. I also love SBT's Seabuckthorn Salve available at Whole Food and Amazon (http://www.amazon.ca/SBT-Rosacea-Salve-80-grams-Brand/dp/B0045P4X5O/ref=sr_1_3?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1423194405&sr=1-3). It's great for flare ups or just as a preventative measure.

  13. Would you use this in additional to the Neals Yard Beauty Balm? And what to do with my 1.5 year old boy who suffers from extremely dry skin and red cheeks because of cold Norwegian climate?
Thank you. This is by far the best blog. Ever.

  14. I must have the most sensitive face in history, but the monu cleansing balm brings my face to a very happy place. It never ceases to amaze me what can work for some people, and what can be a reaction nightmare for others.

  16. This is a bit random but just wanted to say to those ladies who suffer from Rosacea & Blepharitis to try taking Omega 7 sea buckthorn capsules for your itchy eyes. The difference in my eyes is amazing. I have also started using Clinique redness solutions products & they are very soothing. The redness foundation is great.

  20. I'm so glad I saw this. Good to see the changes and differences that a lot of these balms have. When I first received my hush + dotti balm it's wax did the same. I didn't know what to make of it but they said it happens because it's pure organic ingredients. I was told it exfoliates just as good when it does that. Pretty neat.
