Serums update!

I started the day with the intention of answering all of your questions on the serum clinic and writing more serum reviews. Before I did that I wanted to make sure that I had all of the options at the front of my mind and so I decided to sort through my collection and then break them down by purpose/claim to be a little more targeted with both your answers, and the reviews, but that took forever so...

Hydrating

Brightening and/or Pigmentation
With the best will in the world, I don't think I could review all of them in a month. These pictures show approximately half of them. Not shown are high-end, budget, retinols/overnight treatment serums, the doctors, the Somerville, anti-wrinkle etc etc

Brightening/Glow
Still, at least things are a little more under control now.

Brightening/Radiance/Smoothing (you see my problem) :)
Soothing
Reviews will be coming and will probably extend further than May. If you see something you are particularly interested in, do leave me a note in the comments.
And the answers to the Clinic WILL be prioritised tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.

*Also - just as an aside. I have this amount of product because it's my job and has been for nearly 20 years, I'm not insane.

  1. The lovely Hydraluron is not amongst them 😱 (poss under another category?)
Thank you soooo much for taking the time to answer out questions. Serums was always going to be a 'complex one' X

    1. I use the hydraluron too! I like it, I feel like I have less breakouts and I feel like my face is more hydrated, but--- never seen Caroline review it--- so Caroline tell us, is it good enough t keep using? If not, what should I replace it with??!'

  2. Yoour disclaimer made me laugh :) Is there a category/particular ingredients for first signs of aging? No probs with dullness but fine lines and a bit dehydrated? (or would the hydrating category be the one?) Thank you for your efforts (it looks like a mission!)

  3. OMG - you have a lot of serums, I'd need a bigger house for half of those lol.xx

  9. Thoughts on any Dior serums? They have bold claims and I really feel like their Hydra Life Pore Close Up moisturiser lives up to them and so I'm hopeful the serums do too! :)

P.s, sorry if this is published 1000 times I don't understand this :(

  10. Caroline drop the Drop of Youth in the Bin now- it has alcohol. It felt lovely on my skin and then I read the ingredient list and ran away screaming

    1. I think it is similar to the Liquid Gold which also contains Alcohol Denat, Caroline has said on quite a few times that the other ingredients effectively cancel out the alcohol issue ( or words to that effect), I suspect it is the same with this product.

  11. Hi Caroline, can u do a review on vit c serum?

  12. Hi Caroline, I'm just wondering (sorry if it's a silly question!) how you get through so many serums before they all go off? Or are they for giving to/using on other people in your job as well?

    1. I third that. I have maybe two full sized serums at any given point (plus odds and ends I get as samples when I buy other stuff) and it takes me 6-12 months to go through them...how much longer would they last?

    2. Make sure you are using sufficient amounts... No use just using a tiny bit and not getting the full effect!

  13. Your collection is positively drool-worthy, Lady H! I would absolutely love to see a review of the Cell Perfecto PM serum by Yuli. It gets some pretty incredible reviews for not just fading hyperpigmentation, but actually improving the look and depth of icepick and boxcar acne scarring. This doesn't seem to be an area that most serums tackle, but it would be a huge boost for so many of us who deal with this. Your take on it would be most valuable before we decide whether to invest the $$!

    1. Also I went to buy The Body Shop Aloe Protective Serum and it has been discontinued (at least in the U.S.)

  15. I'd love to see the high end overviews of what you think. I just bought the Sisley black rose oil and left some comments asking what you thought but I know how busy you are so any thoughts at all would be great. It's because of you I went bat shit crazy and bought 5 serums and more cleansers from Tata, Kate, Chantecaille and Ren. Got Sunday Riley products because of you and I'm addicted.

  18. Hi Caroline, I was just curious as to what type of pigmentation you're referring to when you say a serum can treat it. Is it just pigmentation caused by acne? I came and met you at Clinique to ask about the pigmentation under my eyes and you said not to bother with creams and to speak to Sam Bunting about a laser. Just want to check I didn't misunderstand and should not bother with serums aimed at this. Thank you!

    1. The Aurelia serum is amazing, I tried it out last night. I received it in Caroline's cult beauty box & I tried it last night after I had upset my skin. I also have a lot of serums but this Aurelia one will now always be in my stash.

  23. This is great! I'm a skin care junkie so I'm so jealous! Even if it wasn't your job, I still wouldn't think your insane. I love it! 👍 💟

  24. Hi Caroline -would love to know your thoughts on the FAB serum as the range is reasonably priced, also the Elemis please. Obviously not all of the serums you are sent will suit your particular skin, how do you go about reviewing things that don't suit you? Is it just a case of highlighting any problem ingredient etc.

  25. Have you tried Avène Ysthéal or Sérénage? Looking for a serum for mature, sensitive skin which doesn't break the bank.

  31. I don't see it here, but have you tried the Merumaya iconic serum yet and what do you think if you have? I'm seriously keen to try some of her products. What a gorgeous collection you have and I love the disclaimer. You can never have too much skincare, right?!?!

  32. LOVE the nude milk and find it hydrating as well as soothing

    ReplyDelete
  33. I would love to see a pic/review of the retinols too - thinking of buying my first as have hit 31 and it's time to start and a bit daunted by what is best!

  34. You could almost shop by color. Wouldn't that be just so handy?

Need hydration? Pick a purple bottle.
Have some bad pigmentation or want brighter skin? Pick a blue one.
    Want glowing skin? Orange/yellow.
Have angry skin in need of soothing? Grab that green bottle.

  35. Which of the above serums would be good for really oily skin? Looking at the Aromatherapy Associates rose serum but also been looking and they offer a mattifying serum as well.. Also any recommendations for moisturisers for extremely oily skin? Within an hour of applying my current moisturiser my t-zone is so shiny and oily.. My skin depresses me.. :( xx

  36. Hi Caroline, I would love to see reviews on any of the The Body Shop serums pictured as I know many are on a budget and these are slightly more affordable than some others you recommend. Love your blog.

  37. Would love to hear about the Tatcha Radiant Serum as I have that but am a bit scared to use it due to the high alcohol content!
