not really

Natural? Organic? Man made? Vegan?
All of the above except it's listed as vegetarian, not vegan.

Tested on animals/sold in territories that advocate testing?

How does it smell?
It doesn't really smell of anything, it's very faint.

How does it feel on the skin?/Absorption rate?
Although there are warnings about the tingle and the skin feeling 'flush' afterwards, I experienced none of that.

How do you use it?/Where to use in your routine?
Post-cleanse, pre-serums.

How long before you should see results?
Well it's supposed to be fairly quickly, but I didn't experience that.

How long did I test it for?
Two months, on and off.

How much is it? /Size/Approximate cost per usage?
£42.00 for 60 pads. £0.70 a pad

What’s good about it?
Not a lot. They contain niacinamide, which is an excellent ingredient, but how much of it is a guessing game.

What’s not so good about it?
I had really high hopes for Juice Beauty. Between the hype, Gwyneth, the seemingly never-ending good reviews in the press, I jumped in and bought these, the moisturiser and a starter kit. Being the acid freak that I am, I went with these first, almost as soon as I got back from LA in February.

In short, to make me 'tingle and flush', these would have to be thrown at my face from above and hit me from a great height. The pads (albeit eco-friendly bamboo ones) are a bit too flimsy, and the pot was almost dry when I opened it. I turned it upside down and left it overnight to try again the next day. No joy.
Maybe it's that there wasn't enough 'juice' in it to start with, or I got a bad batch, or maybe this is standard. In fairness, they are not sold as a traditional 'acid pad'. They are sold as nightly pads to use for brightening, but the descriptions on all their retailer websites use the word 'acids' freely, and mention that the pads are 'saturated'. No they're not. Sadly. Lesson to me to be even more anal than I already am when scanning ingredient lists.
Either way, these made no noticeable difference to my skin and were, in short, a very expensive pot of pads that I will keep and use to apply my acids that come in liquid form - you never know, there must be something on them and I am loathe to bin them. I may well add some P50 to them and leave them in the pot. P50-Pads-on-the-go. You heard it here first people. :)

Works well with?
Supposedly the rest of the range, but I tried that too and it made no difference.

Would I repurchase?
What were your experiences with Juice Beauty? Please let me know. They're a big brand, it can't be all bad? Although it doesn't bode well for the huge amount of money I just spent on ordering GOOP from the US, as that brand was made by Juice Beauty too.

What’s the website like?
The website is excellent. It lists ingredients and you can shop by collection, concern or product category. From the selection I've tried thus far, at this point I would say the website is better than the products.

Similar products?
Every other post-cleansing/toner/acid pads/acid toner that has ever been on the blog performs better than these, although again, in the spirit of fairness, they don't market then as a solely 'acid' pad.

  1. I think the math is wrong here... The devision is the other way around: 42 % 60 = 0.7£ No?

I hope to make this small contribution and then ask for a couple of favors, hehe - hoping you will read my message!
Can you show us in a video how you do your routine? How you use your flannel, how you apply everything... I think everyone will love to see that, we will learn a lot of things. It's going to be some kind of ... er... beauty porn..!
Second, long time ago you mentioned in a video you received a laser hair removal apparatus. Do you have anything to say about it? Does it work? I would love to know...
That and thank you so much! Much love and respect!

    1. That's what Caroline said the pads cost: £0.70 which is 70 pence a pad. Basic maths.

    2. No Ana was completely right. God knows what I was doing when I wrote this but I did indeed have it wrong first thing after publishing đŸ™„ - Thanks Ana ;) x

  2. Hi Caroline,

Your advice has changed my skin in so many ways! I can now go make up free and feel confident! thanks so much!
Was wondering if you would try the Go-To skin care exfoliating swipeys? Its an Australian all natural skin care range.

    Thank you! xx

  3. I have used the juice beauty stem cellular cleansing oil and really enjoyed it. Didnt irritate my skin and left it feeling really hydrated. Ive also tried the green apple moisturizer...and its just average

  4. I bought a small package of these and disliked them very much. The smell was overpowering and rancid. The pads were flimsy and on the dry side. They did nothing to better my skin. I also bought some hand lotion from this brand, and while it works fine, the smell for that is also pretty bad. I probably won't try anything else from the line.

    1. I've tried most of this line and hated it. Didn't do anything at all. Ended up giving most of it away. Disappointing - sticking to Kate Somerville instead!

    2. I too have tried most of this line and hated it. I looked like I had stopped using any products at all while I was using it. The green apple peel, and I had chosen the sensitive version, did nothing except make my face red and sore!

  5. Hi Caroline, I will not be bring them, too expensive for me! I've searched your routine cheat sheets to find out when in the routine to apply a mask . Can I use acids? Serum? Please help! Tks!

    1. I suppose it depends on what kind of mask. If you click on the tab "Sunday Facial", you will be able to find out the way you can use masks.

Cleanse as per normal, clay/deep cleansing mask, acid, hydrating mask, serum, moisturiser.

  6. Thank you so much for reviewing this Caroline! I'm a big fan of juice beauty but I do realise that a lot of their products are hit or miss. I really appreciate you reviewing this because I was looking for some new acid toners and now I know that these are a waste of my money hah. However, I really enjoy the blemish clearing serum from juice beauty if you're testing out their other products! It's my favourite natural acne serum. Thank you again for your lovely reviews Caroline. :)

  7. That's a shame! The ingredients sound lush.

  8. How disappointing! I've been tempted to try these, but will give them a pass as I love my Nip+Fab ones. I have been using their Antioxidant Serum for a little while though - too early to say if it's great, but it's certainly fine so far. I've been very curious about the Goop range, especially the makeup - will be very keen to hear how you find them!

  9. I have made my own toner pads after running out of my nip+fab pads the packaging is perfect for keeping the pad saturated.

  10. None of those ingredients are AHAs or BHAs! This passes FDA inspection???

  11. Juice Beauty makes an awesome peel mask (sorry, I forget what it's called), but having tried a variety of their products in starter kits, I've been disappointed and have not purchased anything full size. I wont be trying these and will stick with my PTR pads.

  12. I just wanted to say a huge thank you for once again keeping it real. I know many bloggers try to be politically correct and just don't mention the bad products they test... Or even not so much bad, but nothing special to write home about.I am guessing that keeps the free products and advertisers filling the till which I guess from a business perspective maybe can't be faulted. However, We rely on your honesty and it really helps to know what not to spend our hard earned beauty dollars on. Credibility is truly the long term goal here right? I have used a generous free sample of juice Beauty's moisturizer because it was so handy for applying makeup on the go in my car, and it was ok, but certainly not worth spending the bucks on!!!

  13. Their BB/CC/LMNOP cream gave me an itchy rash whenever I went in the sun. Thought it was a sunscreen sensitivity, but nope. Just that product. I've been too afraid to try anything else from them!

  14. I can't with Gwenyth. Maybe it's wrong, but my schadenfraude was tickled by your review Caroline. :-)

  15. I used several of Juice Beauty products several years ago. I stopped using them, I think, because I got some irritation and not much else. I saw them again recently and thought about repurchasing, but decided against it. Glad I did! Thanks!

  16. I'm a fan of the green apple peel as a weekly exfoliating mask. Gives great tingle. I have not been impressed with the moisturizer or serum though.

  17. LOVE and appreciate your honesty!

  18. Hi Caroline,

Wondered if you have tried any products from the O Cosmedics range? It's an Australian Brand and I was told about them today when I went to purchase my usual Dermologica products. I asked for something different as my skin is getting more dry and not responding to the usual products.

They have a unique ingredient that they have trademarked called V8 Peptide Complex. I'm concerned that not much is known about it and it sounds too good to be true. Have you heard of it?

  19. Hi Caroline,

I have been using Dermologica for years and have been too scared to try anything else as I have sensitive skin. My skin is getting drier and drier. I went to buy some usual products but saw another range called O Cosmedics which apparently used to be prescription only.

They have a ingredient trademarked called V8 Peptide Complex. Im concerned that not alot is known about it. It sounds amazing but I'm reluctant to change without hearing reviews from reputable experts in the field.

Have you heard of O Cosmedics and V8 Peptide Complex?

  20. Oh thank God. This just went on sale in hautelook and I was about to stockpile thanks to all the 'dressed up' reviews online. You are a lifesaver Caroline!! Also thanks to you I am now an avid acid addict and my skin thanks you for it. Much love~~

  21. I remember I tried this same product a bout a year ago. Yep, mine was the same, pads were flimsy and dry. How one could expect someone to wipe face with such an flimsy thin tissue like thing which is not even moist... I had to double up and use 2 ~ 3 pads a time so that it won't break and get enough juice. I was hoping the pads to be as thick and moist as Peter Thomas Roth's Complexion Correction Pads. This is no way close to that.

  23. Dear Caroline, thank you for continuing to share your knowledge and experience with us 'internet people.' We are very fortunate to have you! I'm sorry to hear that your experiences with this product were as disappointing as my own. It really makes you wonder why they bother going to the effort of making something this ineffective. Hopefully some lucky bugger is getting their money's worth. Definitely didnt work for my sensitive, combo, Scandi skin!

I second the request to see you cleanse and slather on film. Not in a perverted way. Honest! Skincare porn!?

  24. I would also like to see a video of how you use your flannel. I hear " wipe off with a flannel" and I think just wipe. Normally I bend over the sink, fill the flannel with water, and do a combo of splash/wipe, a few times, till face feels clean. Can't think why that would be a problem but would love to see Mrs H do a demo. Thank you for yet another honest review.

  25. I use the Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser and like it, its gentle and helps a bit when I'm breaking out without drying me out. But I wasn't impressed by the other things I've tried, like the moisturizer. The Blemish Clearing Serum was alright, just not my preferred type of product.

  26. Agreed, Caroline! Flimsy, dry, and no texture on the pads to help grip the skin. Other Juice products I've used and will repurchase - oil free moisturizer for my oily skin (love it) and the PEEL! Would love to know what you think about the peel and its ingredients. You can feel it working, I think you would like!

  27. Hi Caroline, I just tried something new that made me think of you. it is from The Little Barn Apothecary Coconut + Mint Cooling Body Mist. I loved it. It smells really nice. I also tried something from Shea Moisture that you can only get at CVS here in the states: African Water Mint & Ginger Detox and Scalp Elixir. I have the same problems w SLS as you and would love to hear more about hair products you like. Thanks for the blog. I really enjoy it.

  28. Hi Caroline! Apologies for this comment being slightly off topic.. I missed the chance to comment on the Requested Reviews post before comments filled up. Please consider reviewing Tatcha, Jan Marini, and Ăˆminence Organics. Thank you! I really enjoy your honest reviews and the whole blog in general:)

  29. I wasn't a fan. But a friend of mine loved them. Then i realized it's because my friend just started using acids in her routine, so this was new to her and it worked because of that. As an avid acid user, I need something more serious, I guess.

  30. Hi Caroline! Thanks so much for reviewing these! I haven't tried the pads, but have gotten good results with the Green Apple Peel (full strength). I feel like that's saying a lot, as I have dark skin and issues with hyper pigmentation. I also have the acne serum (meh at best), and have tried the facial mist as well (it's just a mist, nothing earth shattering, except the spray is quite lovely. Out of all three products I've tried, I do like the peel the best. I've used it for about 2 months 2x week and have noticed great results.

  31. I also tried a large portion of this line and I was tremendously disappointed. Did nothing for my skin. Gave it to my mom and sister in law to try as well, same experience. I enjoy the Hydration Mist, not that its a major innovation, but I like the $22 price point and it does seem to help with redness as well. (For reference, I'm almost 28, Mom is 61 and my SIL is 42)

  32. Quick question should I use salicylic or gycolic acid, or a mix?

  33. Let me just say... I freaking love you!
    That is all....

  34. I'm not surprised by your response, it's one of those lines someone will enjoy if they use basic skincare. Same reason I'm incredibly skeptical of Goop and refuse to purchase it.

  35. Hi Caroline,

I didn't know where to post this. I love your blogs and they have seriously improved my life and my skin in a big way, I really wanted to ask you if you could recommend something for my hyperpigmentation? I have really dark circles under my eyes and a lot of blackness around my mouth. I've literally tried everything. I'm desperate. Please help me.
