Five Facts about Give and Makeup

I know there are a lot of new readers who may not have read about Give and Makeup yet, or long-standing readers who don't mind a gentle reminder, so forgive me if I give it a quick plug now.
  1. We accept anything and everything from clothing to makeup to baby clothing to tampons.
  2. We support Women's Aid, Refuge and CGL. These charities support women and children in/escaping domestic violence situations and people struggling with homelessness, addiction, escaping sex trafficking.
  3. The products are sent directly to the charities involved, they do not go through me.
  4. We are not a charity, we do not accept cash donations. We are a grass-roots initiative.
  5. Your donations have helped thousands of people in the five and a half years we have been going.

What we still need:
  1. Nationwide coverage and help - we have Wales and Central/West London taken care of. We need locations in the North of England, Brighton, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
  2. PRs - please ask your appropriate brands for donations - anything and everything from old packaging to seconds in clothing.
  3. Brands/Retailers - we'll have your returns/excess stock. Please don't send it to landfill.
  4. If you are a business with a suitable posting address and space to accept parcels, please let us know.
  5. And finally, we are unable to organise anything outside of the UK, please feel free to organise your own version of Give and Makeup in your country. The need is worldwide.

Thank you.

  1. Hi Caroline. Can I help? I live in Lancs near Blackpool (where there's a WA shelter ). Run my business from home with plenty of storage space would be happy to accept parcels. If I can help pls contact me on info at

  2. Hi Caroline, I'd be thrilled to be able to help you get this off the ground in Ireland.

I live and work in Dublin and have been trying to rally a few friends to do something similar here. I think I have finally got the name of the right person to contact in Women's Aid (after much asking around) but haven't made contact yet.

Truth be told I've a) been too busy with the day job for a few months but it's calming down a little now, so I can get back on it and, b) I had planned to drop you an email for advice/tips/permission to follow your model before I did. So this is a super serendipitous post to read!

If I can help you get a location up and running here, please feel free to give me a shout. I'd be thrilled to help in however large or small a fashion.

    Thanks. Dena xx

    1. Hi Dena,
I'm in Dublin too and if i can be of any help to you in setting up in Ireland, please let me know.
      Thanks, K xx

  3. I put together a box at Christmas, was supposed to be shoe box size but I couldn't get all the "essentials" into such a small box!

It was such a great feeling to be able to help someone nearby, particularly as I have friends who have relied upon Womens Refuge.

It's so simple to pick up a few extra bits and bobs when you're shopping and it makes such a difference to someone truly in need. I'm definitely going to look into donating regularly, rather than just at Christmas.

    Thanks for posting Caroline x
