  1. Hi Caroline, what do you do if you've got makeup on over the top of your SPF and your out in the sun for more than two hours? I've heard your SPF will not continue to protect your skin ie you need to reapply it again and at regular intervals. The only product I've found to get around this problem is to spray Bioderma SPF over your makeup.would you agree this is enough protection and if not what would you suggest?

    1. I love the Bioderma! I also had this question and brought it to my Derm, who reassured me that it would be enough protection if you thoroughly mist it. I personally blot - mist thoroughly 3 times - wait to dry - powder/touch up.

    2. I'd love to know the response to this too 😀

    3. I've been using a brush on powder sunscreen to touch up over the course of the day. The brand I use is Coloroscience Sunforgettable, but I think Peter Thomas Roth does one as well. My derm was impressed; I've been having IPL done and she measures my skin before each treatment and I went from 27 before I started using the powder to 21 at my most recent visit (a span of 4 months). Not sure what the numbers mean exactly, just that she was happy they were going down!

  2. Hi Caroline thank you really appreciate and love all your videos and information.I am currently using the Chanel SPF 30 but wondered should I be using the 50 SPF. Your skin looks really lovely it is glowing what foundation are you wearing?.

  3. Hi Caroline, I remember from the previous post about the Chanel SPFs that they were in nano form, then in the past, you mentioned in a video to avoid nano spfs. Are they ok? Thanks :)

  4. I keep circling the LRP SPF so I think I might take the plunge finally after watching this! Thanks for the tips, always greatly appreciated.

  5. Caroline,
Dr Sam Bunting recommended using OBAGI Sun Shield Matte Broad Spectrum SPF 50. Would this SPF be your choice as well, especially for quite oily/rosacea skin?
    Thans for all!
    Best,
    Simon

  6. Hi Caroline, I bought a Neals yard rose and almond night cream in waitrose and the young assistant on the till was unable to sell it because she was under 18yrs old and it has alcohol in it! I don't know whether I was more shocked at the ruling or the fact it contains alcohol! I've bought it in the past and think I was ok with it but now that I follow your blog I am paying closer attention to ingredients. Any thoughts on Neals yard as I've always thought they were fairly safe?! Thanks, Maureen

  7. I'm really frustrated with the US FDA. Wish they'd get on the ball and approve more sunscreen ingredients. Currently my favorite sunscreen is one my Dear Husband buys for me when he's in Tokyo on business. Unfortunately, I don't see any business trips on his schedule in the near future. We really take a hit on Zelens products here in the US. By the time I add on local sales taxes Zelens Daily Defence comes to $92.86. Ouch!

    1. I know what you mean - I also have some favourite Japanese SPFs that I love and only get online!

    2. Yes! They either need to get the US pricing in line with UK pricing, or permit us to purchase from the UK. Current exchange rate should put it at $71.11. Don't even get me started on the serums- the brightening serum is £135 for you, and $265 in the US. Frankly, it is offensive.

    3. Couldn't agree more about the FDA. I am sure that there are lobbyists who exert pressure to keep some of these products out of the US market. There is no other reason that we cannot get sunscreens that the rest of the world has used successfully for years.

I wear sunscreen every single day. Cloudy/winter/overcast makes no difference. If the sun is out, you need sunscreen. I have been using Asian sunscreens for almost two years now, and I'm very happy with them -- specifically Biore and Hada Labo brands. I need SPF 50, no avo or oxy-benzone, and something that will not leave a white cast on brown skin. Impossible to find here in the States! Thank goodness for amazon and the occasional overseas business trip.

    4. I completely agree. I'm very interested in the serum but the pricing is offensive and there are other good brands that I can buy for good US prices or via Cult Beauty, so Zelens is off of my list for now.

  8. Forgot to say in my first post, thank you for showing the texture of each of these. I find I prefer a thinner texture that dries down to a velvety finish. I hate when you use a sunscreen in the recommended amounts and it doesn't dry down and stays tacky/sticky all day long. Definitely will explore some of these when I'm out shopping. Thanks again.

  9. My sister and I were just talking about this at brunch today and I told her Clarins - she just got a sample at Ulta, and she did not believe me. Vindicated!! LOve the LRP, but would love to try the Armani. Because . . ."Armani."

  10. Thank you for the great video! I do have a question about application/effectiveness. I put on SPF before work but I leave for work as the sun is coming up. When I go get lunch 5 hours later it is my first real sun exposure. Is my SPF still effective?

    Thanks again!

  11. I hate the smell of SPF (I never really thought it was a smell, and thought it was my mind playing games with me!) - maybe that's why I never liked anthelios :(
Clarins and Chanel, on the contrary, are fab. So is Radical. Less keen on Clinique though!

  12. Hi Caroline! I recently found your blog and YouTube channel. Both have been so informative it's a tad overwhelming! I just read a post of yours about reading ingredient labels and I've learned I'm basically doing everything wrong... Thanks for sharing your knowledge, God knows I need it!

  13. Hi! Can I ask here about self tanners? I have acne skin, i use in the evenings differin or duac and mornings- spf 30, but couple of weeks ago i decided to make a little break and get some sunbath because my face is sooo pale now and body tanned so it looks kinda akward:))) but my face went nuts without medication, soo now zits everywhere and cant see any tan but dont even want to go for face sunbathing :))) i went back on my anti acne routine of course, and so, i am thinking about Fake tan products for face! Can you please recommend somemthing for acne skin? Can I use it with bha lotions and differin and duac? Im afraid of discoloration. Maybe in the same evening i should use only medication or self tanner? Thank you very much!

  14. Hi Caroline
Could you please help recommend how to get rid of whiteheads on the nose?
My nose can be oily in hot weather, but other parts of my face is generall dry.
    Thanks!

  16. Hello, I have one more question: if i buy chanel UV essential spf 50 and apply in the morning before my make-up and will be in the sun just minimal amount, like 30min-1 hour, will it be enough of protection? I also think that spf30 is better when I am sunbathing, but I dont want to reapply it on my face when I have makeup. (I also use retinoids, acids, benzoyl peroxide.) So thinking which one to buy for the face under makeup.THANKS! Daiva

  17. Hello, caroline is there a way i can sun tan safely?

  18. Soooooo, what kind of product do you use to top up your SPF, say lunchtime, and that will not upset your makeup?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi Caroline I currently use LRP but the tinted one (I think that's also ultra light) I find it a bit greasy on application though and I sometimes get rolling with it. I like to use my SPF as a moisturiser - which would you recommend for that? My skin type is probably combination. Lisa
