Charlotte Tilbury Scent of a Dream

A Charlotte Tilbury fragrance was always going to be interesting. I never know what to expect from a fragrance that doesn't come from a traditional 'nose', but this is beautiful.

The Tilbury machine is able to stir up more frenzy around launches than any other I know, bar maybe Chanel - and this has been no different. Kate Moss is the face and honestly, I think this is the best I've seen her look.
Not gonna lie - it helps that they use one of my favourite songs in the video.

As to the fragrance itself? It didn't disappoint. The Mr walked in just after it had arrived and said 'OOH something smells nice in there...!'. That says it all. This is not a fragrance for days I'm doing facials. It's far too strong. This is a date night fragrance. Not for the faint-hearted. It would not be out of place in Guerlain. It's old-fashioned, but not dated. The bottle is classical, heavy.

Scent of a Dream sits in the Floral Chypre category:

Top Notes include:
Saffron, Mandarin, Bergamot

Muguet, Orange Flower, Rose Oil, Tea Rose, Green Ivy, Magnolia

'Psychoactive' base Notes:
The ‘pheromone’ notes are activated by body heat, lasting up to 9 hours –
Precious Woods, Cistus, Amber, Castoreum, Musks

I don't know about the pheromone story, I've heard it before. Molecule and Philosophy in particular, have been at it for years. Fragrance and your olfactory system incite memories, that's the joy of them for me.

Scent of a Dream is sexy. It's heavy-hitting. It's bold. Whether or not it makes someone fancy you or not I don't know. Unless you look like Kate Moss obvs.

Scent of a Dream is priced between £49.00 and £96.00 and is available from Selfridges and

  1. Haha, if you look like Kate Moss, you don't need any pheromones to make someone like you at first sight. The rest of us may need some help.

  2. I heard it. The fragrance works with your pheromones and , wait for it.......adapts to your skin tone! Skin tone! *yawn*. Moving on. I switched right off and didn't take any interest in the fragrance. Can't help it. Beauty Companies really shouldn't treat their customers like fools.

  3. I'm keen to smell it - I think the lemon on top will make it something that works well for me.

  4. If the purpose of the perfume is to make people fancy you, then it's a "stay classy" version of Lynx. Lol. I'm still going to pause at the perfume counter to see if I like the smell.

  5. Can't believe I read this, this morning and then walked into Nordstrom's (Chicago) and they have it. I believe the rep. told me this is the only place it is carried (at least in Chicago).
It is just like Caroline described it. Probably not for me due to the patchouli.

  6. They're pumping this out in my local beauty hall at the moment. Personally, I think it's far too penetrating, and I like strong perfume. I don't get any sophisticated notes in it like I do in my favourite Chanel and Tom Ford perfumes.

  7. I'm a huge fragrance fan, and though this isn't my usual type of scent (I like scents that are a little masculine) I absolutely love the bottle design. It's so in line with the art deco look of the brand, simple and beautiful.

  8. I fell for the hype and ordered itbthe day it launched purely based on the notes of the scent. Since then I see all the glowing reviews and just wondering if my taste is THAT different to others. I find this straight old and dated, definitely not something that I would wear at this stage of my life (mid thirties). I would be as bold as to say that this is for old, glamorous ladies who are in their 60ies and are wearing a red lip. It has a sort of glamour but there is nothing sexy in it. And I do like heavy scents, so it's not a question of taste. For me it's over hyped (like most of her line).

  9. As a person who was a teen in the 80s when your perfume was expected to knock the boys over at the mall, I am a bit nostalgic for a bold scent. And I am a sucker for this bottle. Birthday present for me?

  10. Caroline, whenever you review a fragrance I think of the video of you and Sali H describing your differnt tendencies. "Sweet hooker" and "bottom of an old ladies handbag" which completely describes the contrast in my collection. Made me laugh out loud!

  11. I was disappointed by Scent of a Dream.. i don't know what I expected but it wasn't this.
My Nan was very glamorous and she would have adored this. It's not for me

  12. My husband also loved this one! He's got product fatigue for sure, the poor man, but when I met him for dinner and I was wearing this, he hugged me and said "mmmmmm you smell amazing". This is HIGH PRAISE, I tells ya. I love Scent of A Dream, and her usage of those sexy fragrance molecules in this are genius. Love it!
