I can’t quite believe I’m already writing about Christmas. 2020 has both gone in a flash and seemed to hang around for an eternity.
If this year has been anything, it has been a long one of uncertainty and financial hardship. Covid-19 is not just a public health crisis, it’s a socioeconomic one too. It has put vulnerable women and children at enormous risk of homelessness. The BBC has revealed in an article that under 25s are the group most at-risk of long-term disadvantage as a result of Covid-19; research by Citi Group has shown that job losses around the world are heavily affecting women and The UN has warned that women are being disproportionately affected by the broader societal impacts of the pandemic.
This year, amongst other initiatives, The Body Shop are donating 2p from every transaction between 13th October 2020 to 31 December 2020 to the charity End Youth Homelessness. This will help young people to escape homelessness for good by supporting them into a safe place to call home. Whatever your purchase, big or small, will help The Body Shop reach their maximum donation target of £150,000. The donation will fund a dedicated housing team that will help young women and mothers between the ages of 16 to 25 years move into their own homes, as well as provide bursary and bond schemes to help people overcome prohibitive costs to securing a tenancy.
To help reach their goal, The Body Shop will also be hosting a ‘Sleep Out’ on Friday 20th November for End Youth Homelessness. They are asking their valued customers and friends to give up their bed for one night and find somewhere else at home to rest your head. Whether it’s a tent in the garden or a sleeping bag in the sitting room, anyone can take part in the fundraiser. They’re asking everyone who is up for the challenge to try and raise £100 (but all donations are welcome!) which will go towards helping vulnerable young people. You can sign up or donate here: eyh-sleepout.blackbaud-sites.com
Globally, The Body Shop aims to donate £250,000 to women’s organisations through sales over the holiday period.

They are also making the effort to have a more sustainable Christmas. Overall packaging material has been reduced by over 80 tonnes compared to the 2019 collection, cutting over 40 tonnes of paper and 7 tonnes of plastic.
