  2. I used to love the stuff but I found it was making my already oily skin REALLY oily to the point where no makeup would stay on it. I'm using the nip and fab glycolic pads at the moment, which are obviously not as strong, but I couldn't deal with the oiliness. I do miss the tingle of it and the amazing soft feeling skin the next morning though...you've got me wondering whether it might be worth getting it again and just trying it once a week to get the exfoliation without the oiliness.

  6. Good tips. Thank you. I enjoy using liquid gold a couple of times a week but I usually apply a moisturiser a couple of hours later as my skin is very dry. Will it still be effective? Looking fabulous Caroline :)

    1. Yes, I always feel a bit anxious about not following it with anything moisturising on my dry, dehydrated skin. Especially three nights a week? Is there any way around that Caroline?

  7. If I already have P50, do I need the Liquid gold?

    1. I would say no. I have p50 and find its enough. If I want to alternate I use my Blue Plasma or an enzyme mask - unless your skin is akin to horsehide it's best not to over exfoliate :)

    2. Thanks! Do you think P50 is better or slightly better than the liquid gold?

      Delete
    3. P50 is more of a toner while liquid gold is more of a treatment. I have both and I use p50 on the nights that I don't use liquid gold but from results wise, I had significant results with just p50.

  8. Great video Caroline and Tom, very entertaining! I love Liquid Gold and many other of the Alpha H products. I would love Caroline's thoughts on the rest of the Alpha H range, especially the night treatment creams.

  9. Great, funny video. You guys are a lot of fun. Why is Alpha H not available in Canada? I buy it from the UK and would not be without it now. Why are we being deprived in Canada though? We are still part of the Colony !!!!!!

    1. Do you mean that your purchase it when you travel to the UK or off a UK site?

Beautybay.com sells it and their shipping rates to Canada are incredibly reasonable - free over $92 I believe! Which is great considering that Liquid Gold sells for $72 there. Just tack on one more filler and you get a free sample in addition to the free shipping.

I've also seen Liquid Gold on special there a couple of times!

  10. Does this work on sensitised skin? Who knew that stress causes a skin reaction!!

  11. @ Caroline - Loved the video , would love to see you making some product recommendations for every skin type , - sensitive, dry, normal, combination and oily

I basically want for sensitive skin čśë

  12. Love this video, but I'm slightly worried now - I already use Liquid Gold, but I've never felt the "tingle"... is there something wrong with me???!!!

  13. I recently tried liquid gold. Got no tingle but def seemed brighter and acne was much calmer in morning. However, wen i used it with only one day in between i came out in a VERY itchy dry rash on cheeks and then one under eye area puffed up. It took nearly a week to clear up. Could this hav been liquid gold?

    1. I only get the tingle once in a while, not sure why that is.

  17. Can anyone help? Is Liquid Gold a toner or a serum? On Cult Beauty it's marketed as a "serum" so that makes me think I use it after toning. But it seems a bit overkill to use two products with acid in. Also, do I moisturise afterwards or will this affect how it works? I can't not moisturise - I'd feel dry!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's a water-like liquid, definitely more of a toner step than a serum, but much more active than a lot of acid toners x

      Delete
    2. Thanks :) So should I skip the normal acid tone I use when applying Alpha-H? xx

      Delete
    3. You are supposed to just wash your face and slap on liquid gold. There's no acid tone nor moisture afterwards.

  18. Heyyyyy Caroline! So you should only use A/H Liquid Gold every other night...Is it ok to use Pixi Glow Tonic on the night in-between? Thank you x

  21. Hi, do we know when there will be another Alpha-H TSV?

    ReplyDelete
  22. You are both very fun!!
Tom just made me feel bad about not using spf everyday - I just hate the feel of that greasyness next to my nicely cleaned face! :( (in the summer when I'm out and about I do though, and I try my best to overcome it)
Question though: why is salicylic acid bad for pregnant women? I wonder if docs check that with all patients, as it's quite a common active in skincare nowadays and unlikely that said pregnant woman will know that - I didn't!

    1. Because its a derivative of aspirin

  23. Thanks for the video - can you follow it with a retinoid indoor nightly routine? is it suitable for sensitive skin?
    Thank you!

  24. Is it ok to use Redermic R on nights that I don't use Liquid Gold?

  25. Okay, I had bought Liquid Gold a few months ago after reading it referenced favorably here, but wasn't clear on the fact that it wasn't a toner in the routine sense. So I shelved it, nervous about putting it on with nothing over. This video gave me the confidence to do just that last night (two days after a day of flying - I did a good night with the amazing Bio-Essence Aqua Droplet Sleeping Mask and also used that under my SPF the next morning - so I was rehydrated before going down the LG route). Worked a treat - I had the tingle, but no dryness and this morning my skin was noticeably calmer. Can't ask for more than that. Thank you so much!

  26. Aargh my comment just got deleted. Basically it was along the lines odd my 37yr old dryish, crepy skin doesn't seem to like this, makes it feel thinner and crepier - same thing happened when I used skinceuticals retinol (1%) they all promise to result in plumper, juicier skin but I get the exact opposite. What can I do? Anything? Or am I just old and crepy? It's so depressing. PLEASE HELP ME.

  27. Hello Caroline, I have tried to find an answer to the following question throughout your site but failed - I am really sorry if it's been answered already! So here goes: I have just bought the Liquid Gold treatment. I know I am to use it every third night - this is clear. However, can/should I use acid toners - like FAB pads (love them!!) - on other nights or would that be too much? I do not want to exfoliate my skin to oblivion!

  28. <3 Tom. nuff said. the end.

  29. Can Pixi Glow tonic and retin a be used on the nights liquid gold is not used? I'm very confused!

  30. Hi I recently started using Epiduo (adapalene and benzoyl peroxide gel) daily and was wondering where I can fit Liquid Gold into my routine. I'm conscious of overexfoliating my blemish prone, sometimes sensitive combination skin (early 20s). Thanks xx

  31. Help!

I bought Liquid Gold and also the Pepta Bright---I understand the 3 days a week for LG, and Retinol on other days, but where does Pepta Bright fit into the routine?

    I appreciate any advice...Thank you!

  32. Hello, it's been asked but it hasn't been replied to: is it okay to use P50 or Pixi Glow Tonic on the (alternate) days when you do not use Liquid Gold? LG is not a Retinol, right? Thanks!

    1. You can find it in here - http://www.carolinehirons.com/p/faqs.html

      'Can I use retinols after/alongside P50/acid toners/Liquid Gold?'

In essence, yes, but you may need to neutralise the acids, hence the spritz (stage 2 toner in my routine).
Example: Peter Thomas Roth Unwrinkle Pads recommend using for anything up to 3 minutes then rinsing the face with water. These pads though, are at a 20% strength. The second ingredient is glycolic acid, the fifth is lactic. They're among the stronger ones on the market.
P50, First Aid pads etc etc are nowhere near this strength.
I would go by your knowledge of the product versus the strength of the vitamin A - i.e. if it's prescription strength, don't go using it with PTR pads and no rinsing in between.
Pixi Glow Tonic/FAB pads however, would, in theory, be fine, especially if followed by a neutralising floral water/spritz/traditional toner on cotton pad.
I wouldn't use LG under retinols.
Liquid Gold is not a toner. Alpha-H recommend using Liquid Gold on its own in the evening, although I always have to add a light hydrating moisturiser afterwards, otherwise I feel dehydrated.
The key thing to remember is that formulations have come such a long way since AHA and BHA's were introduced. A lot of the old scaremongering around retin-a and acids is outdated - Kate Somerville even makes a retinol product delivered in a glycolic base formula (she doesn't recommend using it after ExfoliKate Intensive however, you can have too much of a good thing).

  33. Hi Caroline, thank you for such an informative post. Can you (or anyone who knows), please tell me why you shouldn't use a foaming cleanser with Liquid Gold?
DO you mean before you use it or ever? Can I use the wash in the morning and then use Liquid Gold 2 to 3 times a week at night?
The wash I am using is Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Cleanser. Now it is not super foamy but I think it is still called a foam wash.
Any help/guidance would be very much appreciated. TIA ;)

  34. Fab video
I have just come across liquid gold recently and purchased a trio from qvc but now I'm a little hesitant using it now as I have microdermabrasion monthly and having laser hair removal done on my face. I am worried the treatments may not go to well .
I have tried contacting AHA website but no answer .

Would someone kindly advice me please
